Furnace Creek 508 – 2007

Furnace Creek 508 route Team Zorilla (the African desert skunk) set a new team record on this this challenging ultra-distance ride.  See maps, my computer output, and photos here.  Our team of Marnel, Laura, Barry, and yours truly (Lane) set a new team record of 32 hours 47 minutes, bettering the prior record by about 20 minutes.  Even with that improved time we still came in second behind Team Kite for our age group and class (40+ mixed four-person team).  This is the third year Marnel has led the Zorilla team through Death Valley.  The prior two years her team was Barry, Doug, and Patti. This year Patti is replaced by Laura but Patti was our support crew.  I replaced Doug whose schedule didn’t allow him to participate this time.

This was the first time I’ve been involved in such a long ride (508 miles), a relay race, and a non-stop overnight bike ride.  It was a ton of fun and sometime I’ll post a story of our adventures on this site.  The GPS results from this ride are at MotionBased.com.
